The Beginning of Summer, or Lixia in Chinese, is the seventh solar term in the traditional Chinese calendar.
This solar term marks the point when everything has grown after the awakening of spring. It is also the time for early rice planting in many parts of China.
Xinhua correspondents, Shamim Zakaria and Liu Jie, highlighted the cultural significance associated with the solar term of the Beginning of Summer.
